Pillar 09
Impact over Activity
"Busy doesn't mean productive"
Being busy is not the same as being effective.
The world is full of PMs who attend every meeting, send every Slack, and ship every feature — yet somehow never move the needle. Activity is easy. Impact is hard.
What This Means in Practice
- Measure outcomes, not outputs
- Say no to meetings that don’t need you
- Ask “will this move the metric?” before saying yes
- Protect your time for high-impact work
The Anti-Pattern
You’re violating this pillar when you:
- Fill your calendar to feel productive
- Measure success by features shipped, not problems solved
- Answer every message immediately
- Do work that feels urgent but isn’t important
The Mantra
“There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all.” — Peter Drucker
Focus on what matters. Ignore the rest.
